I beg to disagree. The Philippines is relatively safe to travel. It saddens me that a small portion of the Philippines, mostly the strife-ridden Mindanao located in the southern part of the country, affects the entire Philippines' tourism industry. If you will ever visit Luzon where the capital Manila is located, you'll realize how peaceful the city is and hospitable the people are.
Foreigners stay here and none of them were even reported to have been missing or killed in senseless violence by a Filipino. American expats stay here because the cost of living in the city is relatively low. Koreans flock the area to learn English and students from India and other countries in Africa and the middle east studies Medicine because its cheaper here and the quality of education delivered by the Philippines is high.
Visayas, one of the major group of islands in the southern Philippines just between Luzon and Mindanao, have beautiful beaches and landmarks. Mindanao is much more beautiful except that investors never get to invest in that region for fear of being hampered by violence.
I still believe for a better Philippines and that one day, people living in Mindanao will finally seek prosperity and achieve peace as they always wanted.
