Heard about the giant rat-eating pither plant found in the Philippines recently by two British botanist Stewart McPherson and Alastair Robinson in their trip to Mt. Victoria, Palawan in the Philippines?
The news broke out this afternoon showing that two foreign naturalists found these unique creatures and some even decaying rats inside them as they actually "chew" the such rodents using their powerful enzymes. They somehow lure the rodents into going inside the "pitcher" with some scent until the rat is trapped inside and can't let go. I am not sure if its sticky or something. The picture below even shows this giant rat-eating plant with a rodent inside it.
With scientific name Nepenthes attenboroughii, the plant was named after famous british tv broadcaster David Attenborough.
